Heavy Duty Trafficable Expansion Joint Waterproofing System

METHOD STATEMENT

1. METHOD OF APPLICATION

1. Inspect the concrete joint, ensuring that the surface is free from any structural defects and that the edges of the joint and recess is level. Any structural defects to the joint must first be repaired by the main contractor before the installation of the heavy duty trafficable expansion joint is installed. This can be done by means of grinding or building up using a grout.

2. Ensure that the surface is dry and free from any debris and loose material by wire brushing after which the area would be swept clean to remove all dirt and dust. All contaminants would also be removed.

3. Using a two part epoxy compound, high strength, non-flow, epoxy bedding and repair mortar bond the highly elastic, rot-proof and chemically resistant sealing membrane to the surface of the joint. Allowed to cure.

4. Place the EPDM Top-Hat Compression seal over the highly elastic, rot-proof and chemically resistant sealing  membrane.

5. Place the EPDM steel-reinforced nosings on either side of the EPDM Top-Hat Compression seal, male to female.

6. At the preformed centres in the EPDM nosing, drill an 80mm pilot hole.

7. Inject the stud epoxy into the pilot holes.

8. Using the M12 chemical stud, M12 Hex Nut Nyloc and Flat Washer at the preformed centres in the nosings, bolt the entire system down at the preformed centres in the nosings – 290 mm.

9. Install the preformed EPDM buttons into the stud holes.

2. QUALITY

1. Inspect the application of the two part epoxy compound;

high strength; non-flow; epoxy bedding and repair mortar and the highly elastic, rot-proof and chemically resistant sealing membrane for uni- form continuous coverage of the joint.

2. Inspect for adhesion to substrate and free of imperfections.

3. Inspect for total cure.

4. Inspect the application of the Top-Hat Compression seal and EPDM steel-reinforced nosings for continuous uniform coverage over the joint and is sitting flush (male to female).

5. Inspect for adhesion to the substrate and free of imperfections.

6. Inspect nosings for EPDM buttons in all stud holes.
